JABBERWOCK INFORMATION & APPLICATION

The mention of Jabberwock or Jabberwocky immediately brings to mind the classic children’s fairy tales “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and its sequel, “Through the Looking Glass,” both penned by renowned author Lewis Carroll. However, Marian G. Conover Hope, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Iota Chapter in Boston, Massachusetts, was inspired by mythical creatures coming together to stage a grand pageant. In 1925, she envisioned the concept as a musical variety show featuring skits and dances and named it The Jabberwock, which Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. later copyrighted.

Today, the Jabberwock/Beautillion is a biennial scholarship and personal development program with diverse and engaging cultural, educational, and social activities to expand personal goals, self-worth and self-esteem culminating with the crowning of one young lady as Miss Jabberwock and one young man as Mr. Beautillion. Proceeds raised during Jabberwock/Beautillion will fund scholarships to all participants as well as community programs and projects.
